Hi everyone, today, I finally could work a little in my sewing. 

I cut down a lot of 5 inches squares, because I want to do some coasters that matches the tablemats I did some months ago, and I have left plenty of fabric. I cut some strips for my daugther's bunnie quilt too.

Hola a todas, al fin pude trabajar en mis proyectos.  Hoy corté un monton de cuadros de 5 pulgadas, ya que quiero hacer unos portavasos que hagan juego con los individuales que hice hace algunos meses ya que me sobró bastante tela..

Tambien corté unas tiras para la colcha de conejitos que le estoy haciendo a mi hija Bárbara.

Then, I finished the 12 blocks of this Bunnie Quilt, they are really big blocks, they measured about 20 inches. I'm planning to use the "Quilt as you go" method, quilting one block at a time and then joining all together.

Let see...maybe tomorrow...

Entonces terminé los 12 cuadros de la colcha de conejitos, son cuadros muy grandes, miden como 20 pulgadas. Estoy planeando usar la técnica de "Quilt as you go", acolchando cuadro por cuadro y entonces unirlos ya acolchados.

Veamos... tal vez mañana...

Hi again, well my bird's wallquilt is finished and I just hang it in place. I loved how it looks with some of my most precious belongings.

The old sewing machine that now is a beautiful table,made by my husband, was from my grandmother, on my father's side, "chichí", how we use to call her affectionately. I always remember her sewing on it.

Hola de nuevo, pues ya está listo el gobelino de los pájaros y lo acabo de colgar en su lugar. Me gusta como se ve junto a algunas de mis más preciadas pertenencias. La máquina de cocer antigua, que ahora es una linda mesa, hecha por mi marido, era de mi abuela, por parte de mi papá, mi "chichí" como le decíamos cariñosamente. Aun la recuerdo costurando en ella.

And on the table you can see an old coffee grinder; this was from my mother's grandma, my great grandmother. My mom treasured it very much and she gave it to me a few months before she died, so now is a treasure for me, as it was for her. It is very old, I think, and is amazing that it works like new.

Sobre la mesa pueden ver un viejo molino de café; este era de la abuela de mi mamá, mi bisabuela. Mi mamá lo atesoraba muchísimo y me lo dió unos meses antes de morir, y ahora es un tesoro para mi como fué para ella. Es muy viejo, yo creo, pero es sorprendente que aún funciona como nuevo.

In the wallhanging I hand quilted the blue border with some flying birds. I liked how it come out, and there are some close photos of the border so you can appreciate it.
La orilla azul del gobelino la acolché a mano con unos pájaros volando. Me gustó como quedó y hay les dejo unas fotos del detalle a ver si lo pueden apreciar.

Great company weekend

Maravillosa compañía de fin de semana

 Hi, it has been a few days since my last post, I'm still working in my UFOs  and I haven't finish nothing yet to share, but what I want to share is the great company I had last weekend.
Hola, ha pasado un tiempo desde que publiqué mi ultima entrada, sigo trabajando en mis proyectos inconclusos pero aún no he terminado ninguno, así que lo que les quiero compartir es sobre la maravillosa compañia que tuve el fin de semana pasado.
 Last saturday my sister Yulia and my niece Adriana came home to start some sewing projects, and ask for my help. And I love to give them a hand.
El sabado pasado mi hermana Yulia y mi sobrina Adriana vinieron a la casa para que les ayude con unos proyectos de costura,lo que me encantó hacer. 
Yulia wants to learn dollmaking and she started with a cloth cat for her boys.
Yulia quiere aprender la muñequería y empezó con unos gatitos de tela para sus niños.

Adriana start a memory quilt with a lot of beautiful family photos.
Adriana empezó una quilt del recuerdo con un montón de bellas fotos familiares.

It is wonderful to spend time with family and friends creating beautiful things ¡

It is raining, we were waiting it for a long time, hoping the heat go away. The air smells delicious, I love how the wet ground smells.
Está lloviendo al fin, estabamos esperando la lluvia con la esperanza de que se lleve el calor. El aire huele delicioso, me encanta el olor a tierra mojada.

I've been busy, I'm working on two of my unfinished projects: The "Forest Cottage" and the "Birds" wallhangings. 
He estado ocupada, he trabajado en dos de mis proyectos inconclusos: los gobelinos de "La cabaña del bosque" y el de "Los pájaros".

I'm up to start the quilting.
Ya estoy por empezar el acolchado.

I´m searching for some birds silhouettes to quilt in the border.

Estoy buscando siluetas de pájaros para acolchar en la orilla.

I'm working on a new Annie doll, my daugther saw a rag doll with big eyes and yellow yarn hair. She wants one like that and today I have painted and hand stitched  the doll's face. It came out ok, I think, because bárbara like it.

Estoy trabajando en una muñeca Annie nueva, mi hija vió una de grandes ojos y con pelo de estambre amarillo. Ella quiere una igual, así que hoy pinté y bordé la cara de la muñeca. Salió bien, creo, porque a Bárbara le gustó.

Hi , I'm in a new patchwork project, it's a wallquilt called "Forest Cottage" that I found in a magazine.

Hola,estoy con un nuevo proyecto de patchwork que encontre en una revista.

I started it yesterday, and I spend a lot of time choosing the fabrics before being certain that that's the combination I liked. It's always difficult to me to decide the colors I want to use. Sometimes I think it's the hardest part for me. If you have tips to share on how to combine colors and fabrics it would be great.

Lo empecé ayer, e invertí mucho tiempo escogiendo las telas antes de estar segura de que esa es la combinación que quiero. Siempre se me dificulta escoger los colores que quiero. A veces me parece que esa es la parte mas difícil para mí. Si tienen tips para compartir sobre como combinar colores y telas seria grandioso.

At the end I changed the colors suggested in the magazine, so I'm hoping it comes out nice.

This is the first block, is machine apliqued and today I'm going for the second one... and I'm liking it so far.

Al final cambié los colores sugeridos en la revista, así que espero que quede bien.

Este es el primer bloque,esta aplicado a máquina y hoy voy por el segundo... y hasta ahora me esta gustando.

He is our youngest dog, he is one year old and we all love him. We love all our dogs, as I've told you before, we have four of them.

Hi dear friends,how are you doing? Here in mérida had yesterday what the news called the hottest day of the year; We were at 42 degrees almost all day, even in the aftenoon, about at 6 or 7 PM we still had 40 degrees. So it was an awful day, I didn't sew anything, only did a little redwork. My kids and I, almost spend all day watching TV and eating icecream and popsicles. Later in the nightfall when the wind started to blow was a relief and we had a good sleep.I hope we don't have more days like this.

Hola amigas, ¿como les va? A quí en Mérida tuvimos, segun las noticias, el dia mas caluroso del año; Estuvimos a 42 grados casi todo el dia, aún en la tardecita, 6 o 7 PM seguíamos a 40 grados. Así que fué un dia horrible, no costuré nada solo hice un poco de redwork. Mis hijos y yo estuvimos casi todo el dia viendo tele y comiendo helado y bolis. Al anochecer que empezò a soplar el viento fué un alivio y ya pudimos dormir bien. Ojalá no se repitan muchos dias así.

Today I want to share this wallquilt I've finish a few days ago; It's made with a "sewing ladies's" fabric that I loved in the moment I saw it.

Hoy quiero compartirles este gobelino que terminé hace unos dias; lo hice con unas telas de costureras que me encantaron desde que las ví.

 I just sewed thin strips in different colors around the ladies blocks and joined them with a little wider strips of the other fabric.

Solamente cocí unas tiras angostas de diferentes colores alrededor de los cuadros de las costureras y las uní con tiras un poco mas gruesas de otra tela.

 It came with a decorative strip in a very contrasting yellow with sewing stuff (machine, pincushion, iron board, scissors etc) on it. It is very beautiful so I used it to make the big pocket with divisions in the bottom to keep all my sewing supplies, it came out very nice, and is very useful.

La tela trajo una tira decorativa en un lindo color amarillo contrastante con motivos de costura (máquina,tijeras, alfileteros, tabla de planchar, etc). Está muy linda y la usé para hacer un gran bosillo con divisiones en el extremo para guardar todas mis cosas de costura, quedo bonito y muy útil.

Ya estamos en mayo y no habia subido el cuadro de abril del calendario country que unas amigas y yo estamos haciendo desde marzo.

Realmente me gusto el conejito de pascua.

We are in may now and I haven't post the april's block from this country calendar quilt that a few friends and I are doing since march. 

I really like the little easter bunnie. 

El patrón es de "Ellie´s Quiltplace".
Fué un Bom (block o cuadro por mes) que ella publico en su blog. Todos los cuadros de cada mes estan bien sencillos y hermosos.
Mis amigas y yo estamos disfrutando bordandolos mes con mes.
The patterns are from 
"Ellie's Quiltplace". 
It was a BOM (Block of the month) that she posted in her blog. All the month blocks are very simple and beautiful. 
My friends and I are enjoying very much doing the embroidery each month.

Y eso es todo de abril y la pascua, solo me queda compartirles una foto de como pasamos el domingo de pascua...Tuvimos la alberca,buenos amigos,rica comida,carnes asadas, buena musica...hasta los perros tuvieron un buen dia ya que nos robaron carne asada y las alitas de pollo...mmmm
And that's all for easter and april, the only thing left to share is a photo of how we spend our easter sunday...we had the swimming pool, good friends, good food, good music ..even our dogs had a good day because they stole our roast meat and chicken wings...mmmm

Hola, mi cumpleaños fue el mes pasado pero no habia podido ver a mi querida amiga Rosy hasta ayer aqui en mi casa donde estamos pasando las vacaciones de semana santa y me sorprendió con este bello cuadro a punto de cruz que me bordó. Es un lindo cuarto de costura con edredones y pequeños detalles por todos lados.
¿ Vieron que preciosa máquina de cocer y las tijeritas ,y el alfiletero?
My birthday was last month but I didn't have the chance to see my dear friend Rosy until yesterday here at home where we are spending our easter vacations;
And what was my surprise with this beautiful cross stitch present that she made for me. It's a lovely sewing room with quilts and tiny details all over the place.
 Did you see the pretty sewing machine and the little scissors, the pincushion and all the small things in it? 

Todo el tiempo invertido en este bordado me habla de algo que ya sabia, el aprecio que le tengo es correspondido, ahora vivimos en ciudades diferentes pero nuestra amistad ha permanecido intacta.

All the time she invest in this work tells me what I already know, that she is a  truly friend for me as I'm for her. Now we're living in different cities but our friendship is still intact.

"Home is where the heart is" Wallquilt

Este es uno de los primeros gobelinos que he hecho. Adoro la frase, especialmente ahora que estoy lejos de casa. Fue bordada a máquina en un pequeño negocio del centro comercial. Yo no bordaba a mano mucho en la época en que la hice. Los diamantes color borgoña de las esquinas y los rectángulos de los lados no me salieron perfectos; las piezas estaban demasiado pequeñas para una "quilter" principiante como yo en esos tiempos.

De cualquier manera me encantó y espero que a ustedes también. 

This is one of the first wallquilts I've made. I love the phrase, specially now that I'm away from home. The phrase was machine embroidered in a small place at the mall; I didn't do much hand embroidery by the time I made it. The diamonds in burgundy fabric from the corners of the center wreath didn't came perfect neither the lateral rectangles, all the parts were to small to join for a beginner quilter like me by that time; Anyhow I love it and hoping you think so too.

     Cuando vivía en Palenque no había un lugar donde vendieran telas 100 % algodón para mis proyectos de patchwork.
   Palenque es un lugar muy pequeño y aunque está creciendo muy rápido, aùn no las consigo, pero las que si encuentrto son telas de cuadros "vichy" de todos los colores, y esas son las que use en estas dos colchitas que hice para los hijos de mi hermana Yulia, mis sobrinos Nico y Alex.
  When I was living in Palenque there wasn't a place where I could get 100 % cotton fabrics for my patchwork projects.
  Palenque is a very small town, even though is growing very fast, I still can't , but I certainly could find "vichy cotton fabrics" in all colors, so this is what I used in this two baby quilts I made for my sister`s boys, my nephews Nico and and Alex.

  Esta el la colcha de Nico que es mi ahijado también.

This is Nico's quilt who is my godson too.

   Usé cuadros vichy en rojo y azul y tela blanca lisa, como ven manejé dos tipos de cuadros: el rehilete y el barco; y el resultado final me encantó.

   Aqui les dejo un acercamiento de los cuadros.

   I used red and blue vichy fabrics and plain white fabric, and as you see I used two different blocks; the pinwheel and the boat and I really like the final result.                                Here's a closer lok of the blocks.

Como ven use muchos colores diferentes de cuadros y está formada por veinticuatro cuadros con diferentes aplicaciones hechas a máquina, y siento que quedo ideal para un bebé debido a los colores tan dulces y a los lindas aplicaciones. 

                     

As you see I used alot of diferent colors of vichy fabric and it was made with twenty-four machine apliques blocks, and I feel it came out very suitable for a baby with all  that sweet colors and beautiful apliques.

"Barbie's quilt"

La colcha de Bárbara"

Esta es la colcha de mi hija, fué la primera que hice, me tomó varios meses porque no fui muy rápida con el acolchado a mano. Al pricipio las telas que escogí no me convencieron mucho y mi hija Bárbara hubiera preferido que tuviera más rosa. A lo mejor esa es la razón del porque me tomó tanto terminarla. Pero una vez que ví todos los cuadros juntos empezó a encantarme.

This is my daugther's bedquilt, it was the first one I make, it took me several months because I wasn't very fast with my handquilting. At first, the fabric I choose didn't convinced me a lot and my daugther Bárbara would have preferred more pink on it. Maybe that's the reason why it took me so long to finish it. But once I saw all the blocks together I started loving it.

Me encantó la forma en que se cruzan las lineas unas con otras formando cruces.La colcha está hecha con dos cuadros muy sencillos y el truco es combinar los colores claros con los oscuros, o en este caso combiné los amarillos y rosas en vez de los claros y los verdes y azules en vez de los oscuros. Y así fué como quedó...

I love the way all the lines intersec with each other forming crosses. The quilt is made of two simple blocks and the trick is combine light colors with the dark ones, or in this case I combined pinks-yellow instead dark colors and green-blue instead light colors. and thats is how it came out...

Aqui estan los diagramas de los cuadros, en ellos puedes ver como combinar los colores claros ( L ) con los colores oscuros ( D ).

Yo creo que incluso puden usarse telas diferentes alternando los colores claros y oscuros para hacer una colcha muy linda.. Supongo que sería una maravillosa manera de usar el exceso de retazos de tela que sobran después de haber hecho varias colchas.
Here is the block's diagram, in it you can see how combine light ( L ) and dark colors ( D ).

I guess that you could even use different fabrics for each block just alternating dark and light colors and it would make a nice quilt. I think that it can be a great way to use your excess of fabric after several quilts done.
