A beautiful present ¡

Hace unos dias fué mi cumpleaños y no podia dejar pasar la oportunidad de compartirles uno de los regalos que recibí. Este bellisimo cuadro me lo bordó mi hermana Yulia en punto de cruz, es un cuadro precioso con los cuadros mas representativos del patchwork, como el dresden plate y la estrella de Ohio,  que es el estado donde nació mi madre.
A few days ago was my birthday and I want to share with you one of the gifts I received. This lovely embroidered picture made in cross stitch by my sister Yulia, It is a beautiful work wich has some of the most known patchwork blocks, like the Dresden plate and the Ohio star wich is my mother's birthplace.

Yulia, mi hermana es colaboradora de este blog, y ella es la que ha subido unos bordados de punto de cruz que han visto en entradas anteriores; como los dos cuadros de veleros y las playeras que bordó para mis sobrinos y para su esposo Beto. Ella borda de manera impecable el punto de cruz y es su fuerte en cuanto a las manualidades; como saben, mi fuerte no es y lo poco que bordo en punto de cruz es con mucho esfuerzo, ya que me toma mucho tiempo.

Así que admirar el trabajo dedicado en mi regalo me llena de felicidad.

Yulia, my sister is also contributor of this blog, she is the one who has upload the posts about cross stitching lately, like the sailboats pictures and the embroidered t-shirts she made for her husband and kids.

She is great with cross stitching, and as you know that's not to easy for me, it takes to much time for me to finish a cross stitch project.

So to admire this beatiful work made by Yulia makes me very happy.

Mientras llegan quiero compartirles el mantel bordado en redwork que hice.

It had lovely kitchen stuff all around because my dinner table is circular and it looks very nice in red color.

Tiene utensilios de cocina en todo el alrededor ya que es circular y luce bien bonito en color rojo.

Today I want to share the cats that my sister Yulia made for her sons. Maybe you remember that she came to my home a few weeks ago for a little help with them.
Hola, es un lindo domingo...disfrutenlo.
Hoy les quiero compartir los gatitos que hizo mi hermana Yulia para sus hijos. A lo mejor recuerdan que les platique que vino a mi casa hace algunas semanas por un poco de ayuda para hacerlos.

They came out very nice, Yulia made them in gray wool and the clothes are in red and green gingham fabrics. 
Quedaron bien bonitos y yulia los hizo de paño de lana en gris y las ropas las hizo de tela mascota en rojo y verde.

The red one is Nico's and the green one is alejandro's.
El rojo es de Nico y el verde de Alejandro.

As you can see in the photos the face is handstitched in black thread and the names of the boys are machine embroiderede in the cat's clothes in red and green respectively.
Como pueden ver en las fotos la cara está bordada a mano en hilo negro y los nombres de los niños en las ropas de los gatos están bordados a maquina en rojo y verde respectivamente.

Always is great when my sister visits me and is better if we make crafts together.
Siempre es maravilloso cuando me visita mi hermana Yulia y mas cuando hacemos manualidades juntas.

Hi again, well my bird's wallquilt is finished and I just hang it in place. I loved how it looks with some of my most precious belongings.

The old sewing machine that now is a beautiful table,made by my husband, was from my grandmother, on my father's side, "chichí", how we use to call her affectionately. I always remember her sewing on it.

Hola de nuevo, pues ya está listo el gobelino de los pájaros y lo acabo de colgar en su lugar. Me gusta como se ve junto a algunas de mis más preciadas pertenencias. La máquina de cocer antigua, que ahora es una linda mesa, hecha por mi marido, era de mi abuela, por parte de mi papá, mi "chichí" como le decíamos cariñosamente. Aun la recuerdo costurando en ella.

And on the table you can see an old coffee grinder; this was from my mother's grandma, my great grandmother. My mom treasured it very much and she gave it to me a few months before she died, so now is a treasure for me, as it was for her. It is very old, I think, and is amazing that it works like new.

Sobre la mesa pueden ver un viejo molino de café; este era de la abuela de mi mamá, mi bisabuela. Mi mamá lo atesoraba muchísimo y me lo dió unos meses antes de morir, y ahora es un tesoro para mi como fué para ella. Es muy viejo, yo creo, pero es sorprendente que aún funciona como nuevo.

In the wallhanging I hand quilted the blue border with some flying birds. I liked how it come out, and there are some close photos of the border so you can appreciate it.
La orilla azul del gobelino la acolché a mano con unos pájaros volando. Me gustó como quedó y hay les dejo unas fotos del detalle a ver si lo pueden apreciar.

Great company weekend

Maravillosa compañía de fin de semana

 Hi, it has been a few days since my last post, I'm still working in my UFOs  and I haven't finish nothing yet to share, but what I want to share is the great company I had last weekend.
Hola, ha pasado un tiempo desde que publiqué mi ultima entrada, sigo trabajando en mis proyectos inconclusos pero aún no he terminado ninguno, así que lo que les quiero compartir es sobre la maravillosa compañia que tuve el fin de semana pasado.
 Last saturday my sister Yulia and my niece Adriana came home to start some sewing projects, and ask for my help. And I love to give them a hand.
El sabado pasado mi hermana Yulia y mi sobrina Adriana vinieron a la casa para que les ayude con unos proyectos de costura,lo que me encantó hacer. 
Yulia wants to learn dollmaking and she started with a cloth cat for her boys.
Yulia quiere aprender la muñequería y empezó con unos gatitos de tela para sus niños.

Adriana start a memory quilt with a lot of beautiful family photos.
Adriana empezó una quilt del recuerdo con un montón de bellas fotos familiares.

It is wonderful to spend time with family and friends creating beautiful things ¡

!Es maravilloso pasar ratos con la familia y amigos creando cosas bellas¡

I'm a raggedy lover

"Babi" is all done with her beautiful dress with pink yo-yos and she is  ready to go upstairs to barbara´s room, where she is going to live.

"Babi" está terminada con su lindo vestido con yo-yos rosa y está lista para ir arriba, al cuarto de Bárbara que es donde va a vivir.

The only thing she gotta do is being Bárbara's friend, hear her secrets and keep them well.

Lo único que tiene que hacer es ser amiga de Bárbara, oir sus secretos y guardarlos bien.

Well, she is not finish yet, but she already has a name: "Babi", my daugther Bárbara named her because a character in a book she's reading.
Bien, ella no está terminada aún pero ya tiene nombre: "Babi", mi hija Bárbara la llamó asi de un libro que está leyendo.
 I'm going to try to finish her today because Bárbara don't stop asking when is going to be ready. And I don't want to hear it one more time.
Voy a tratar de terminarla hoy porque Bárbara no deja de preguntar cuando va a estar lista.Y ya no quiero escucharlo otra vez.

Gobelino "Cabaña del Bosque"

This wallquilt is almost finish; at least the top cover, at the end, I liked the colors I've chosen because it was a little difficult to decide wich ones to use.

Este gobelino esta casi listo; la cubierta superior cuando menos, al final si me gustaron los colores que escogí, ya que me fué un poco dificil decidir cuales usar.

All the apliques was machine made, the bird is my favorite.

Todas las aplicaciones fueron hechas a máquina, el pájaro es mi favorito.

It is coming out a little bigger than I thought, the wall where it suppose to be hang is going to be too small. So maybe I take this to my house in Palenque, there, it will look nice...or maybe I'll find another wall to hang it here.

Esta quedando un poco mas grande de lo que pensé que sería,la pared donde la quería colgar va a quedarle chica. Así que a lo mejor me la llevo a mi casa en Palenque donde se vería linda...O a lo mejor aqui encuentro otra pared donde colgarla.

When it is completely finished I will decide where to hang it..meanwhile   good night.

Hola, ya había pasado un tiempo desde mi ultima entrada, pero mis amigas Rosy y Margot estuvieron ocupadas y subieron sus lindas manualidades, gracias por contribuir...

Today I want to share a beautiful present that I have just received from my little sister Yulia. She made me this for my birthday, it was in march but she haven't finish it back then, so she brought it to me until now and I had the lovely visit of her sons, Nico and Alex too. Thanks I loved it.

Hoy les quiero compartir un precioso regalo que acabo de recibir de mi hermanita Yulia por mi cumpleaños. Fué en marzo pero no lo había terminado hasta ahora que me lo trajo junto con sus lindos hijos Nico y Alex. Gracias Yuly, me encantó.

My son Andrés had his 19 birthday

this past saturday. I can't believe he is so grown-up now.

"A sewing wallquilt"

Hi dear friends,how are you doing? Here in mérida had yesterday what the news called the hottest day of the year; We were at 42 degrees almost all day, even in the aftenoon, about at 6 or 7 PM we still had 40 degrees. So it was an awful day, I didn't sew anything, only did a little redwork. My kids and I, almost spend all day watching TV and eating icecream and popsicles. Later in the nightfall when the wind started to blow was a relief and we had a good sleep.I hope we don't have more days like this.

Hola amigas, ¿como les va? A quí en Mérida tuvimos, segun las noticias, el dia mas caluroso del año; Estuvimos a 42 grados casi todo el dia, aún en la tardecita, 6 o 7 PM seguíamos a 40 grados. Así que fué un dia horrible, no costuré nada solo hice un poco de redwork. Mis hijos y yo estuvimos casi todo el dia viendo tele y comiendo helado y bolis. Al anochecer que empezò a soplar el viento fué un alivio y ya pudimos dormir bien. Ojalá no se repitan muchos dias así.

Today I want to share this wallquilt I've finish a few days ago; It's made with a "sewing ladies's" fabric that I loved in the moment I saw it.

Hoy quiero compartirles este gobelino que terminé hace unos dias; lo hice con unas telas de costureras que me encantaron desde que las ví.

 I just sewed thin strips in different colors around the ladies blocks and joined them with a little wider strips of the other fabric.

Solamente cocí unas tiras angostas de diferentes colores alrededor de los cuadros de las costureras y las uní con tiras un poco mas gruesas de otra tela.

 It came with a decorative strip in a very contrasting yellow with sewing stuff (machine, pincushion, iron board, scissors etc) on it. It is very beautiful so I used it to make the big pocket with divisions in the bottom to keep all my sewing supplies, it came out very nice, and is very useful.

La tela trajo una tira decorativa en un lindo color amarillo contrastante con motivos de costura (máquina,tijeras, alfileteros, tabla de planchar, etc). Está muy linda y la usé para hacer un gran bosillo con divisiones en el extremo para guardar todas mis cosas de costura, quedo bonito y muy útil.

Hi again, I have just finish my first Rag Doll, and before I post the photos I want to share a little the history of this dolls, because here in Mexico aren't known with that name, we only call them cloth dolls. So I do some research.

Hola de nuevo, acabo de terminar mi primera muñeca rag y antes de mostrarles las fotos quiero compartirles algo de la historia de estas muñecas. Aqui en Mexico no son muy conocidas con ese nombre, las llamamos solamente muñecas de trapo. Asi que investigue un poco.

A rag doll is a children's toy. It is a cloth figure, a doll traditionally home-made (and stuffed with) spare scraps of material. They are one of the ancient children's toys in existence.

Una muñeca rag es un juguete para niños. Es una figura de tela, tradicionalmente hecha a mano (y rellena de) de restos de tela. Son unos de los mas antiguos juguetes que han existido.

And the famous Raggedy annie & Andy are fictional characters created by the talented  ilustrator and cartoonist Johnny Gruelle. Stories say that Raggedy Ann comes alive when people aren't watching and goes to wonderful aventures with her brave brother Raggedy Andy.
Y los famosos Raggedy Ann y Andy son unos personajes ficticios (caricatura) creados por el ilustrador y caricaturista Johnny Gruelle. Las historias dicen que Raggedy Annie cobra vida cuando las personas no estan viendo y vive aventuras maravillosas junto a su valiente hermano Raggedy Andy.

I always love the raggedy dolls and just made this small one for my self to practice the leg strips painting and the tea stained of the fabric to make it look old. And I simple loved my doll, I have it siting on my tv, so I can see it very often.

Siempre me encantaron estas muñecas así que me hice esta pequeña para practicar como se pintan las rayas de las piernas y como se le dá la apariencia antigua manchando la tela con té concentrado.

Simplemente me encantó, la tengo sentada sobre mi tv, para poder verla a menudo.

After the doll was finished I paint it with a very concentrated tea with a small brush
Al terminar la muñeca la pinte con te muy concentrado y una pequeña brocha

After the legs strips was acrilic painted and stained with tea I sand them with a very fine sandpaper to make them look old
Despues de pintar las rayas de las piernas y mancharlas con el té las lije con papel de lija muy fino para avejentarla

Hola de nuevo, hace unos dias encontre unas telas lindas con tazas de café que me encantaron. Y decidi hacer unos individuales para la mesa del comedor.

Hi again, a few days ago I found some beautiful fabrics with coffe cups in it, and just love it. So I decided to do some placemats for my dinning room table.

Lo hice de una manera muy sencilla. Primero corte los cuadros grande con las tazas...
I did it in a very simple way. I cut the fabric with the big square cups...

... Y con las demas telas corte tiras de diferentes medidas: 1.5, 2, 4 y 6 pulgadas.
...and with the rest of the fabrics I cut strips in different sizes; In 1.5, 2, 4 and 6 inches.

Desues empecé a armar los individuales uniendo las tiras con los cuadros al azar.
Then I start to assemble the placemates joining the strips with the squares ramdomly.

Despues de eso los corté para que quedaran de 10' por 15' pulgadas.
After that, I cut them to be 10' x 15' inches final measurement.

Despues los acolché y adorne con puntadas decorativas a la maquina.
...then I quilt it and make the decorative stitches by machine.

Finalmente costuré el bies alrededor de los bordes y quedaron listos para usar en mi mesa.
Finally sewed the bias all around the placemats and they were ready to use at my table. 

Fué una manera fácil y rápida de hacerlos y quedaron lindos. It was a very easy and fast way t do it and the result was very nice.
