Only one week left...

Solo queda una semana...

Yes, it is only one more week of vacations, and it will be time to leave our home here in Palenque. Is always difficult leave this house I love so much; but my kid's school are in Mérida so... we are coming back next vacations.

Si, solo nos queda una semana de vacaciones y va a ser hora de dejar nuestro hogar aqui en Palenque. Siempre es dificil dejar esta casa que amo tanto; pero las escuelas de mis hijos estan en Merida, así que... volveremos las próximas vacaciones.

Today I want to share with you this wonderful tree we have in our entry way. It's a very old tree, and there's not many left in the world. That's why we haven't remove it when we built the entrance.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes este hermoso árbol que tenemos en nuestro pasillo de entrada.

Es un árbol muy viejo y ya no quedan muchos en el mundo. Por eso no lo quitamos cuando construimos la entrada de la casa.

It is a Jícara tree, I don't know the english name. This tree has a scientific name, but is called that way because with their fruits the ancient maya who lived here many years ago, used to do food or beverages containers. This containers are commonly kown as " jícaras".

Es un árbol de "jicara", tiene su nombre científico pero le llamamos así porque hace muchos años los antiguos mayas hacian con sus frutas, recipientes para comida o bebidas. Estos recipientes se llaman jícaras.

When the fruit ripes it dries and get very hard and let the artisans work on them. There are still people who do it.
Cuando la fruta madura se seca y queda muy dura lo que permite a los artesanos trabajarlas. Aun hay quienes lo hacen todavía.

This tree was considered sacred through all Mesoamérica, even is mentioned in "The Popol Vuh"(Part two, Chapter two), The Sacred book of the maya or Mayan bible.

Este libro es considerado sagrado en todo Mesoamérica, incluso es mencionado en el "Popol Vuh" (Parte dos, capítulo dos), Libro Sagrado de los Mayas o conocido también como la Biblia Maya.

It is a privilege for us to have it and to take care of it, besides it is a incredibly beautiful tree.

Es un privilegio para nosotros tenerlo y cuidarlo, aparte de que es un árbol de increible belleza.
